At Connecticut Painters United, we know that a home’s exterior is its first impression — especially for classic New England colonials. Recently, our crew had the pleasure of transforming a beautiful colonial home, captured here mid-project, showcasing the stunning contrast between the old faded green and the fresh, vibrant sea foam green-blue stain.

🧼 The Importance of Proper Surface Preparation

Every successful painting or staining project starts with thorough prep. For this home, we began with a professional soft wash to remove years of dirt, mildew, and weather-related grime, ensuring the surface was clean and ready.

Soft washing is crucial because it:

  • Protects delicate wood siding from damage

  • Eliminates mold and mildew that can cause future staining issues

  • Improves stain adhesion for a longer-lasting finish

🎨 Applying Two Coats of Sherwin-Williams WoodScapes® Stain

After the siding was prepped, we applied two coats of premium Sherwin-Williams WoodScapes® solid stain. This product is specifically formulated for wood siding in the

New England climate, offering:

  • Superior UV protection to prevent fading

  • Water resistance to keep moisture out

  • Breathability to allow the wood to expand and contract naturally

The sea foam green-blue color was carefully selected to give the home a fresh, updated look while respecting its historic charm.

🏡 Why Routine Exterior Staining Matters in Connecticut

New England homes face a unique set of weather challenges, from snowy winters to humid summers and salt air near coastal areas. These conditions can lead to paint peeling, wood rot, and mildew growth if not addressed.

Routine staining every 5–7 years helps:

  • Protect siding from moisture damage

  • Extend the life of wood siding

  • Maintain your home’s curb appeal and value

👷 Our Commitment to Quality and Detail

This project also included meticulous masking of windows and trim, ensuring a clean finish and protecting other home features. Our team prides itself on respecting your property and delivering results that stand the test of time.
